My name is Braden Newell — I’m an Atlantic Canadian technology educator and municipal politician with a life’s mission is to make technology easier to understand. I do this by leveraging my talent for translating complex technical topics into “simpler speak” by creating modern and engaging learning experiences.
Over my decade-plus in the technology sector, I’ve become a multimodal instructional designer, including becoming a talented writer, award-winning videographer, and experienced public speaker, helping people learn both in-person and virtually.
Currently, I work at Okta as a Senior Enablement Specialist, where I run employee enablement programming for the Product & Technology organization. Throughout my career I’ve taught Business Technology Management at Acadia University within its School of Business Administration, and worked as a Learning Experience Designer II at Jamf, where I co-authored two security-focused certification courses and built several asynchronous e-learning experiences exploring the company’s cybersecurity portfolio. I've also worked as a Creative Pro at Apple, helping people learn about their personal technology; writer for Pocket-lint and MobileSyrup, primarily covering Apple; and freelance consultant helping individuals, small businesses, and non-profits better understand their technology needs.
I hold a Master of Business Administration, concentrating in technology innovation, from the University of Fredericton, and a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in computing and information systems, from Saint Mary’s University. I’m also an Apple Certified iOS and Mac Technician, Apple Certified Support Professional, Jamf Certified Admin for Jamf Pro and Jamf Protect, and CompTIA A+ certified, proving my technical and industry knowledge.
In my spare time, I represent my community — the Town of Bridgewater — as a Councillor, Chair of the South Shore Housing Action Coalition (SSHAC), Chair of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities' (NSFM) Climate Change Committee, and member of Park View Education Centre’s School Advisory Council. I also hold a keen interest for personal finance and am the proud pet parent to Simba, Honey, Oreo, and Crumble.
